Dear Owners and Operators of Ohio Golf Courses,

I’ve been fortunate to spend over 25 years in the golf industry, but one of the most rewarding roles I’ve ever held is that of a high school golf coach. It’s an incredibly positive experience—one that enriches not just the players, but families and entire communities.

High school golfers love the sport for so many reasons: the thrill of competition, the camaraderiewith teammates, the excitement of traveling to new and beautiful courses, the pride of wearing a team uniform, and, of course, the challenge and joy of the game itself. Parents might love it even more. They watch their children grow in confidence, discipline, and character—traits that will serve them for a lifetime, on and off the course.

Communities benefit too. My players are often recognized as hometown heroes at local courses. I see our team photos proudly displayed at our home course. The game is creating connections and memories that last a lifetime. And as a coach, it’s an honor to be part of it. It’s fun, it’s fulfilling, and it’s incredibly meaningful.

These student-athletes are the future of the game. They are passionate, knowledgeable, and respectful of both the course and the traditions of golf. It’s often said that 80% of a course’s revenue comes from just 20% of its guests—these players are part of that critical 20%. Keeping them engaged is not only good for the game’s spirit but also essential for its sustainability.

Having worked at and with golf courses in Ohio, Arizona and Florida, I’ve seen many approaches to youth golf—but Ohio truly stands out. The level of involvement and support from Ohio’s golf courses is exceptional. We are fortunate to compete in well-run tournaments at top-quality venues throughout the state, and the OHSAA consistently delivers a first-class experience during championship season.

So from all of us—coaches, players, and families—thank you. Thank you for your continued support of high school golf. Thank you for opening your courses to us, for treating our players like valued guests, and for investing in the future of the game. Your efforts are noticed, and they will pay dividends for generations to come.

Warm Regards,
